Diesel Power Stations

'96 - ‘97                  Stork - Wärtsilä Diesel, Amstelveen                              Dept. (Projects) Power Plants,

'97 - '98                  Wärtsilä NSD Corporation                                                 Project Manager

Under supervision of the Department Manager I have been responsible for several large turn-key projects. A 126 MW Diesel-Generator Plant in Karachi, Pakistan and a 100 MW Diesel Power Station in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The projects consist of 12 and 10 diesel engines respectively, with all ancillaries, buildings, civil-work, mechanical and electrical works and control systems. They were of such extent and with extraordinary risk that a “dual project manager” function was required in order to manage the various disciplines, vendors and subcontractors.

The project team consisted of 20 office staff, 20-30 expats on Site and approximately up to 1000 men from various (local/international) subcontractors.

Regular visits to the construction site in Tanzania have contributed in the completion between August and November 1998, generally within the time schedule, despite difficulties with local circumstances as well as "El Niño".
